The Story Of Nowruz
The production The Story of Nowruz describes the unique celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of the Persian New Year. From exciting and ancient Zoroastrian soul-cleansing rituals, to the good luck charm and beauty of the "Table of the Seven S's, the performance depicts traditions of inspiration, rebirth, renewal, and hope through traditional choreography, original scoring performed by a live 22-piece orchestra, and professional actors in a first-of-its-kind stage production. The Story of Nowruz will be performed in 7 scenes (mirroring the haft-seen), beginning with history and traditions prior to Nowruz, during, and after. The tale celebrates the amazing, ancient rituals and stories shared in a vibrant format.
What we are looking for:
Dancers/Actors:
8-12, Female
4-6, Male
6-8, Youth
We are looking for dancers/actors who want to be a part of a large scale production about Nowruz/Norooz, the Persian New Year. You will be dancing and dance acting to tell a story.
*Requirements:
- Attend rehearsals Saturdays 2-5pm January 11th - March 14th - location will most likely be in Berkeley unless most dancers live in the South Bay & San Francisco in which case rehearsals will most likely be in San Francisco or Fremont. Timing may be slightly later depending on the date.
- There may be additional Rehearsals Sundays or Tuesday nights depending on need.
- Attend Dress Rehearsals at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre March 18th & 19th, 2020
- Performances are March 21 & 22 at the Palace of Fine Arts
Training:
Professional level dancers with at least 2 years of performance experience.
A background in (some of, not all of these styles is preferred) Persian Dance, Modern Dance, Ballet, Uzbek, Tajik, Afghan, Indian Classical Dance Forms, Chinese Classical Dance, Hip Hop
*Compensation for rehearsals & performances will be provided.

Art of Dance, Art of Music and Art of Theater is a connector, a common theme across nations, that brings joy and unity and breaks borders and barriers, and can be the bridge between cultures to connect and unify us all together and embrace our differences and get to our core and our deep similarities.
NICA was founded by Niosha Nafei-Jamali, who has been recognized by The World Affairs Council, The Society of Iranian Professionals, The Persian Center, and numerous other organizations for her contributions towards not just preserving Iranian culture and heritage in the US, but expanding it. Niosha and her academy travel extensively and performed at numerous "Heritage Day" and "Cultural International Day" celebrations and have a big part in promoting Iranian heritage and art.
